Overthinking

I have always had difficultly with overthinking. I’ve just found it so hard not to think about whats happened, whats going to happen next and whats happening in the future.

Here are some tips if you are like me and really struggle from over thinking everything:

Change

You first need to become aware that you are continually overthinking before you will be able to make the change. Any time you feel yourself overthinking or anxious take a step back from the situation and look at how you are responding to it. In that moment you will then become more aware of the change you need to take in order to stop the mind from continually working over time.

Fear

Overthinking is mainly caused by fear. When you focus on all the negative things that might happen or might not happen it’s easy to become stuck. When you feel yourself fearing everything in your life it is important you stop and start to visualise what it would be like if everything went right and keep those thoughts present.

Happiness

Having hobbies or an active life can keep you distracted from overthinking everyday. It can also make you feel more happy, positive and healthy. Some examples are things like meditation, dancing, exercise, learning an instrument, knitting, drawing, and painting.

Get real

People who overthink a lot find themselves over exaggerating in their mind. They make things bigger and more negative than they need to be. When you feel yourself do this next time, ask yourself how much will this matter to me in a years time.

Waiting for everything to be perfect

If you are sitting there waiting for everything to be perfect and your mind is continuously overthinking about everything that needs to be done for it to happen, well I’m sorry the truth is you will be waiting a very long time as unfortunately it will never happen.

Change your view of fear

If you feel you are maybe afraid because you have failed in the past and fearful of trying again, it is important to remember that just because things did not work out before does not mean that has to be the outcome every time. Remember, every opportunity is a new beginning, a place to start again.

Unable to predict the future

No one is able to predict the future. If you spend the present moment worrying about the future, you are wasting your life away. Spending time thinking about the future is simply not productive, instead spend time on things that give you joy.

Accepted

Once you have accepted yourself for who you are it will enable you to move forward in life. It will stop you from analysing you as a person and allow you to face your fear without overthinking every part of it.

Be grateful

Be grateful for all that you have. Every morning or every evening, make a list of everything that you are grateful today, instead of sitting down overthinking everything you would have done differently or you wish you had in your life.
